Amira, the first British veiled woman mountaineer, shares her extraordinary journey of breaking barriers. With courage and determination, she confronts misconceptions head-on, encouraging others to challenge themselves despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Through her gripping narrative, Amira inspires audiences to reach for the peaks in their own lives, demonstrating that even the loftiest goals are within reach even if they may be up a mountain. Amira’s adventure started with her mum, taking her on adventures when she was younger, it wasn’t the norm in her community you didn’t see Muslim women on the mountains. This sparked a love for exploring and adventure which led Amira on a solo backpacking trip. This was a journey of self discovery. Following a divorce, she connected with nature and the mountains, it became her healing space it became a place where she connected to God on a deeper level, at that moment she realised there wasn’t a space for Muslim women to connect and enjoy the outdoors & at this very moment the real adventure began. The North Face releases “Belonging”, a short film that follows Amira Patel through her journey of self-discovery, enriched by a celebration of sisterhood. Join her on her time through the Himalayas to the basecamp supported by a female team, each day delving into more challenging conditions and demanding a powerful sense of self to make it to her finish line.

I AM CAPABLE TRAILER After experiencing injustice when hiking in the English countryside, Amira Patel decided she wanted to help create a safe space for Muslim women outdoors. She founded her own group, the Wanderlust Women. During lockdown, Amira found a love of wild swimming: it was a place of stillness, in which she could connect to God, yet she always swam on her own… until now. For the first time ever, Amira is joined by two other women to swim together in the beauty of the Lake District. Summaya and Sham are apprehensive upon arrival; it is a big thing for them to be stepping out the box of what is deemed to be normal for Muslim women. After the initial shock wears off, they experience the transformative effect of cold-water immersion. They form a powerful sisterhood, finding strength in one another’s bravery in helping to breakdown the stereotypes and boundaries that exist. This is a film made by an all-woman crew, about women. For International Women's Day this year, we met Amira The Wanderlust in The Langdale Valley, The Lake District. Amira is a adventurer, hiker and founder of The Wanderlust Women. Amira's aim is to diversify the outdoors to show that the outdoors truly is a space for all. She aims to break down the barriers of wearing the niqab and create a safe space for Muslim Women to hike outdoors, whilst being part of a community of women that support and celebrate each other.
